Tonight, as we read the scriptures before bed, we got to Gen. 18. This where God changes Abraham's name, and sets up circumcision as a sign of the covenant. Of course, Simeon is a sharp cookie, and he didn't understand how God could bless someone, and kill them, since he thought circumcision meant death. Elijah (now 4) thought it was when you cut off your hand because I just got through explaining to them today what Jesus meant by "it would be better to enter life with one hand, that to go to hell w/ 2."
This then lead to the explanation, which was thoroughly confusing to them. So, by way of illustration, all I had available was a light saber and a target bag, which seemed to be sent from God. They both winced as I tore the end of the bag off, then we continued to read.
Why circumcision, Lord? Thank you for my family, and help me to teach them Your ways.

Prov. 30:12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, Yet is not washed from its filthiness.
